A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §50-5-14a, relating
to authorizing magistrate courts to accept unsigned copies of
citations; and payments for such.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
and reenacted by adding thereto a new section, designated
§50-5-14a, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 5. TRIALS, HEARINGS AND APPEALS.
§50-5-14a. Disposition without court appearance.
A person who mails or delivers an unsigned copy of a citation
with the person's payment will be considered to have entered a plea
of no contest. The court shall accept the payment and enter a
judgment of conviction for the citation.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to authorize magistrate
courts to accept payments when persons mail or deliver such
payments to the court to pay citations.
